Whatsapp Most Likely to Have an Indian CEO

Whatsapp will soon have a new Chief Executive Officer as Jan Koum, the current CEO, confirmed that he will be leaving the post soon. Whatsapp is the world’s largest messaging platform and has over 1.5 billion active users as of June 2017. It is rumored that an Indian, who is an IIT alumni will soon be filling the esteemed position. Neeraj Arora who works as a business executive in Whatsapp will be taking up the role of the CEO. He formerly worked as a Corporate Development Manager in Google. There are many contenders for the post, but Arora seems to be the strongest one and will most like take away the trophy. Arora is an alumnus of Indian School of Business and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. When he becomes the CEO of Whatsapp, he will join the esteemed group of Indian CEOs, which include Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Sundar Pichai of Google, and Shantanu Narayen of Adobe. After graduating from IIT, Arora took up a with Accellion in 2000. Accellion is a cloud computing firm, who credits their core technology creation to Arora. In 2006, he graduated with a degree in Finance and Strategy MBA from Indian School of Business. After that, he joined Times Internet for a short period of 18 months.

Successful career

He handled Google’s Strategic investments and Acquisitions across all geographies and products from 2007 onward. In his LinkedIn profile, Arora has mentioned that he helped Good acquire Talkbin, PittPatt, Slide, Cleversense, Dailydeal.de, Picnik, and Zagat. Many don’t know, Arora is one of the board members for PayTm, the popular Indian digital wallet and e-commerce platform. For the past seven years, he is associated with Whatsapp. After Arora becomes the CEO, he will have to work extra hours to gain the trust of Whatsapp users. Being an Indian CEO gives him an edge since it gives people a sense of security and also most Whatsapp users are from India.
