USA Received 201,011 H-1B Petitions for 85,000 Available Visas in 2019-20

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (U.S.C.I.S.) stated it had obtained a satisfactory number of H-1B appeals to achieve its yearly H-1B cap for the 2020 financial year, 201,011 on whole, for 85,000 open visas. In contrast, for the financial year 2019, U.S.C.I.S. got 190,098. U.S.C.I.S. distributes visas through a lottery system that is weighted toward people with a master's degree from U.S. Similarly, the yearly cap for H-2B visas is 66,000, which are allotted on the basis of first-come, first-served, with up to 33,000 open for the first half of the financial year and the enduring 33,000 held for the other half.

H-2B Visas Allocation

The Homeland Security Department and the Labor Department recently announced a temporary final rule to announce 30,000 extra H-2B visas by the end of the financial year 2019. Additionally, the 30,000 are open only for workers who got an H-2B in one of the previous three financial years. While H-2A visas don't have statistical limits, they can be too costly for most agricultural industries. Between the U.S. labor deficit and the limitation on and work visas cost, jobs go unfilled at firms over the county and crops continue unpicked.

Pew Research Study Details

A Pew Research Center study from the year 2018 predicts that there are 7.8 million immigrants without proper documentation in the U.S. workforce. It should be seen that for the huge majority of these people and the jobs they fill, there is no viable legal immigration. This number is declining from 2007, mainly due to the recession. However, the rate of unemployment in the U.S. is 3.6%. Meanwhile, 5% of unemployment is usually considered full employment. Federal Reserve economists presently believe full employment to be within 4.1% and 4.7% unemployment, which is yet greater than our current 3.6%.
