The number of international students from India applying to US schools has drastically dropped despite being the top study destination for Indians. The information, as revealed in a survey conducted by HDFC Credit, shows that the US reduced its rate of issuing student visas by 40% as it fell from 74,831 in 2015 to 42,694 in 2018. Since Trump resumed office as the president of the US, the interest of immigrants in coming to the country has significantly dropped. On the other hand, student loans in the US grew from 20% to 30% in the 2018 fiscal year. As it is, the US is not the only country that's losing its attractiveness to international students; the UK too is suffering the same fate as the attention has shifted to countries like Canada, Australia, and Germany. In 2014, there was a total of 38,000 loans given to students in Canada. In 2018, the number of loans given out to students quadrupled. The trend is not any different in Australia, where the number of student loans given out has recorded a massive 100% spike. Germany too had a student loan increase of 83% in the past five years. The UK, just like the US, adopted the anti-migrant chant and in the past five years, growth in this sector has flattened. The number of student loans granted in the country in 2014 was the same in 2018. Having a friendly work visa policy is a lure for students The attention of students is now more drawn to countries with more welcoming policies for getting jobs. In Canada, for example, international students are attracted by the Students Partner Program (SPP), which makes it possible for them to get a work visa for three years. Generally, countries like the Netherlands, France, Ireland, and Germany have recorded an increase in the number of applications for student visas. The number of students preferring Australia and New Zealand is also steadily on the rise.
