The already complicated Australian immigration system has once again been altered with the Australian government announcing a series of new temporary work visa sub-classes. These new sub-classes have come into effect as of 19th November 2016 and according to the government have been introduced to make the process of applying for a temporary work visa easier for all concerned including the foreign worker, and the businesses involved. Four new visa sub-classes are now available. Visa sub classes are Subclass 400 Temporary Work (Short stay Specialist) is aimed at those that ant to take up highly specialised work, Subclass 403 Temporary Work (International Relations) allow workers to stay in Australia for a short period in accordance with a bilateral agreement, or work for a diplomat, Subclass 407 Training Visa is aimed at classroom based professional development and Subclass 408 Temporary Activity Visa applies to those working in a range of industries including, but not exclusive of entertainment, religious work, high level sports, super yacht crew and full time domestic work in household of senior foreign executives, and academic research projects. The new visa sub-classes should make it easier by doing away with sponsorship and nomination requirements for specific short stay activities. Applicants are now advised that applications can be made online and that a single sponsorship will replace the six sponsorship types that currently exist. The Australian government has been cracking down on immigration and illegal entrance to the country and it is hoped that these measures will make it easier for legitimate short term visa applicants to go through the process of getting work in Australia in these specific areas where skills are in short supply and business needs the foreign workers to be economically productive. All applicants are encouraged to visit their Embassy visa pages to check the new regulations and criteria before applying for a temporary work visa to Australia.
